The beadwork seen on powwow regalia
today (and in the past) is a source of
pride and pleasure amoungst both the
wearer and the maker. the bead work
tells a story. It tells of deeds,
accomplishments, & events of the
wearer such as a hunt battle or moving
into a new time in their life. It also tells of
identity and history of the wearer either
as an individual or of their Nation.
Some bead styles are specific to a Native Nation or region. Some styles are modern and often tell of
personal stories or identities. Accessories such as belts, chokers, drops, earrings, hair ties, crowns,
cuffs and the Grass Dancers harness are often beaded. So to are whole pieces of clothing such as a
vest , moccasins, apron or the yoke on a Womans Traditional dress.
